About Me

Welcome to the online blog for traveler/writer/photographer Steven Barber. Come in. Relax. Take off your shoes and socks -- or any other article of clothing, this is the internet. Have a look around. I hope to intrigue, amuse, entertain, and maybe provoke you just a little. I love to find adventure. All I need is a change of clothes, my Nikon, an open mind and a strong cup of coffee.

CARCROSS, YUKON - THE LITTLEST DESERT

As my father-in-law might have noted, this is a "wee little" place along the road.

Driving from Skagway, Alaska, to Whitehorse, Yukon, you might be forgiven for missing the small patch of sand along the side of the roadway just a few miles north of Carcross.

It is, after all, the "smallest desert in the world", measuring about a square mile all told.

If you're a budding Lawrence of Arabia, this might be a good place to start training for that trek across the sands.

Just don't do it in the winter.
