Welcome to the online blog for traveler/writer/photographer Steven Barber. Come in. Relax. Take off your shoes and socks -- or any other article of clothing, this is the internet. Have a look around. I hope to intrigue, amuse, entertain, and maybe provoke you just a little. I love to find adventure. All I need is a change of clothes, my Nikon, an open mind and a strong cup of coffee.

AMERICAN HISTORY - GETTYSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA

It seems appropriate to the week which contains the American Independence Day within, that we celebrate famous American historical areas.

Beginning today with Gettysburg, one of the bloodiest and worst incidents in our past. Where American slew American, and a nation's soul was tested.

In this one battle, more than 50,000 soldiers of the North and South gave their lives in a war they believed would make their lives, and the lives of their children, better. It is remembered through the silence upon those hallowed grounds, christened with the blood of men on both sides.

Standing on the meadow with a cold wind blowing up from the main battleground, a shiver works its way into your heart that takes a long time to be rid of.
