About Me

My photo
Welcome to the online blog for traveler/writer/photographer Steven Barber. Come in. Relax. Take off your shoes and socks -- or any other article of clothing, this is the internet. Have a look around. I hope to intrigue, amuse, entertain, and maybe provoke you just a little. I love to find adventure. All I need is a change of clothes, my Nikon, an open mind and a strong cup of coffee.

Taking a Header!

"Look at the world with the child's eye - it is very beautiful."
                                  Kailash Satyarthi

The header -- the long rectangular image usually found at the top of a page or article -- is perhaps the most unsung image category on the internet.

The image has to be "highly horizontal", so as not to take up to much of the article's space, but it also must grab the viewer's attention and get them to stay on the page long enough to begin reading.

I have multiple websites which I manage, ranging from the Thumbnail Traveler and Ask The Passenger blogs and Facebook pages, to my Barbergallery.net page and my own personal Facebook page. Add in my Twitter feed and the articles which appear on other people's pages and that adds up to a lot of headers over the years.

In looking through them, it's a reminder of how much we have traveled over the last five years. Some places are under-represented. (I'm surprised I haven't used more of our Australia images, for instance.) Each of them is representative of a topic or mood I was trying to establish, and each is something which I feel is somehow representative and illustrative of my work.

So, I thought I would feature them in their very own blog entry.

Enjoy.
