About Me

My photo
Welcome to the online blog for traveler/writer/photographer Steven Barber. Come in. Relax. Take off your shoes and socks -- or any other article of clothing, this is the internet. Have a look around. I hope to intrigue, amuse, entertain, and maybe provoke you just a little. I love to find adventure. All I need is a change of clothes, my Nikon, an open mind and a strong cup of coffee.

WATCHING THE HORROR

With climate change being a pretty much de facto occurrence, 2017 is the year nature is showing her fury. Massive hurricanes have devastated large parts of the United States and Caribbean, and here in California wildfires are destroying thousands of acres of beautiful countryside.

Our hearts go out to those impacted by this destruction, and our hopes your lives can be returned to some sort of normalcy soon.

As we watch the horror in the Napa Valley, news comes that Calistoga, one of our favorite places in the world, is under evacuation. And Safari West, a huge wildlife preserve west of there, is holding its own and that the animals are safe for the moment.

Our thoughts are with you all.

(Photos are Calistoga and Safari West, respectively.)
