About Me

My photo
Welcome to the online blog for traveler/writer/photographer Steven Barber. Come in. Relax. Take off your shoes and socks -- or any other article of clothing, this is the internet. Have a look around. I hope to intrigue, amuse, entertain, and maybe provoke you just a little. I love to find adventure. All I need is a change of clothes, my Nikon, an open mind and a strong cup of coffee.

MUSICLAND

Music lies at the heart of so many cities and cultures that it, at times, defines that place.

Manhattan and San Francisco claim the underground music scene, particularly when it came to the 1960s. Nashville of course is Country, though even now it expands its musical borders to nearly every field. Los Angeles has both film music and rock and roll. Honolulu is Hawaii. Seattle is grunge. St Louis, the Blues.

And New Orleans is jazz. Dixieland and, increasingly, straight ahead and Blues fusion.

Music defines us and our culture.

Live music is a way to get to know a place, get to the city beneath the streets, if you will.

Give a listen next time you're in town.
