About Me

My photo
Welcome to the online blog for traveler/writer/photographer Steven Barber. Come in. Relax. Take off your shoes and socks -- or any other article of clothing, this is the internet. Have a look around. I hope to intrigue, amuse, entertain, and maybe provoke you just a little. I love to find adventure. All I need is a change of clothes, my Nikon, an open mind and a strong cup of coffee.

Pic of the Day: Waiting for the Flyby

In September, 2012, the space shuttle Endeavour went atop NASA's massive 747 carrier for the last time. Her tour took her across America, and a final flyby over Orange County, Long Beach and Los Angeles before her final stop at LAX, there to be transported to the California Science Center as a permanent exhibit.

One of the more profound moments came as she passed over the RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach's Queensway Bay. As the 747 waggled her wings in salute, the Queen responded with a blast of her famous and iconic 55Hz horn.

Thousands lined the beaches from Orange County to Long Beach to await the flyover. Below one such couple arrived early to make sure they had a perfect position for the event.
