About Me

My photo
Welcome to the online blog for traveler/writer/photographer Steven Barber. Come in. Relax. Take off your shoes and socks -- or any other article of clothing, this is the internet. Have a look around. I hope to intrigue, amuse, entertain, and maybe provoke you just a little. I love to find adventure. All I need is a change of clothes, my Nikon, an open mind and a strong cup of coffee.

Pic of the Day: King of the World

(Reverting to Pic of the Day title to avoid confusion with essays)

We're all familiar with Leonardo DiCaprio's iconic "I'm the King of the World" declaration from the movie Titanic, as his character and his beloved Rose stand on the bow of the ill-fated ship, high over the sea as it races below. And tens of thousands -- if not millions -- of people have doubtless duplicated that moment as they, too, faced the wind from the bow of a boat.

There's a sense of flying, of freedom and peace and tranquility as the waves pass beneath you and the wind blows through your hair and across your skin. Worldly cares seem to evaporate/

And, shared with a loved one, a sense of romance. Of togetherness.
